Castelfeder is a fourth generation family winery founded in 1970 by Alfons Giovanett. Prior to the founding, Alfons had attended the renowned wine school in San Michele all’Adige and gained extensive experience as a vintner.  The small private winery was originally situated in the center of Egna in South Tyrol and vinified mainly red grapes such as Lagrein, Pinot Noir, and Sciava.

In 1989 the founder’s son, Günther Giovanett took over the management of the winery and transferred the winery to the small village of Cortina.  Today, Castelfeder Winery is located in the middle of South Tyrol’s southernmost vineyrads, where mostly white varietals such as Pinot Bianco, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon, and Gewürztraminer are grown.

This enthusiasm of a winemaker begins in the vineyard with the planting of the vines, advising and working with the winegrowers and continues through the harvest and gentle pressing of the grapes in the cellar up to the vinification of the wines and finally to their marketing. The result of this difficult but rewarding job is wine that gives the family great pride.

The effort of Günther and his wife Alessandra is confirmed by the decision of their children to change their passion into work. Ivan and Ines both have dedicated the entirety of their studies to the betterment of the winery.  Ivan focuses on the winemaking and Ines represents the winery around the world.
