Mertzeoro
BACKGROUND
Mertzeoro is family run company that was born in Mamoiada, in central Sardegna. For over twenty years, they have been involved in the processing of vineyards and the production of wine. The winery is five hectares of vineyards that are worked with respect in the traditions handed down from generations.
Mertzeoro is a part of the Mamoiada Winemaker’s Association, Mamoja. The association was created to enhance and protect the viticulture and wines of Mamoiada by encouraging organic farming; preserving and promoting the cultural aspects linked to vines, wines, and the gastronomic heritage; disseminate the Mamoja association model which encourages local productions to pursue sustainable development policies for people and the territory.
The Terroir
Respect for the territory is a essential for the Mertzeoro Winery, therefore, the wines are produced organically.. For years, they have been working the vineyards concentrated mainly in Baduorane with approximately one hectare of 12 year old Cannonau, one hectare of a 10 year old Granatza, and three hectares of newer vines. Granatza is a very native variety from Barbagia that has always been used for blending Cannonau. In the last twenty years, it has started to be vilified individually.
