Vivid straw yellow. Honeyed nuances complicate aromas and flavors of herbs, apple, pear and wet stones. Big and bright with good juicy cut to the youthfully chewy and peppery flavors of pomaceous orchard fruit. Finishes long and full-bodied. -- Ian D'Agata

92 - COLLIO RONCO DELLA CHIESA DOC 2015

Luminous pale straw-yellow. Slightly reticent aromas of honey, banana, and sweet spices. Big, rich and dense with lively but harmonious acidity providing clarity and cut to the ripe stone fruit and honeyed flavors. Finishes long and pure. A very good wine, but the hot year makes this less typical of the Tocai Friulano variety than in past vintages; readers should note that the Ronco della Chiesa is usually one of Italy’s best twenty or so whites in practically every vintage.

A blend of 40% Friulano, 40% Sauvignon and 20% Riesling, this structured white opens with aromas of toast, crushed stone, grilled herb and a whiff of yellow stone fruit. It's full bodied, delivering baked apple, dried apricot, citrus zest, vanilla and butterscotch flavors. A hint of toasted almond and a savory, almost salty mineral note linger on the finish.
